Southwest Baltimore Community Health Project Results
The goals for the Faith Center were compiled from the results of the Southwest Baltimore Community Health Project that Miracle Temple Church partnered with through collaboration with the Morgan-Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions.
Community Concerns
When asked what were the three biggest health concerns that the residents felt impacted their community, the results of the top ten are as follows in order of most frequently reported:
- Drugs
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (especially HIV/AIDS)
- Alcohol abuse
- Sanitation/Cleanliness
- Pests (Rodents, Insects, Stray Animals)
- Tobacco use
- Violence/Safety/Poor Law Enforcement
- Lack of Health Insurance/Lack of Basic Healthcare
- Crime
When asked about different issues in the community that the residents felt were major problems, below lists the percent of people that said that issue was a major problem.
- Drug activity – 88%
- Crime – 75%
- Youth smoking – 59%
- Adult smoking – 58%
- Gang activity – 40%
- Recreation and facilities – 40%
- Safe roads and bridges – 33%
- Auto-related injuries – 25%
- Child healthcare – 22%
- Street lighting – 18%
- Public transportation – 18%
- Garbage collection – 17%
- Banking/Financial services – 16%
